Diya's Portfolio

Hi, my name is Diya Masood and currently I'm studying in Forman Christian College University. The  major I opted is Computer Sciences and my first year is about to end. It's been a rollercoaster ride since the start of this course. This digital portfolio is related to my course WRCM 102 that I'm studying in 2nd semester. This course aims to develop our skills in written and verbal communication. These skills are highly valued in many careers, as clear and persuasive communication is crucial in many fields. 

What have I gained from WRCM 102 and how do I think this will help me for the rest of my time in FCCU?  WRCM 102 likely focused on enhancing my writing abilities, helping me develop clarity, coherence, and organization in my written work. This will be beneficial for me in my future courses as I'll be better equipped to convey my thoughts, argue persuasively, and effectively communicate my ideas in various assignments and research papers. This course made me understand the importance of responsible communication, how to avoid plagiarism, and maintain academic integrity. Our initial task was focused on exploring research databases and learning how to effectively utilize them. This knowledge will greatly assist us in locating appropriate sources and references for our research topic.

  This assignment enhanced my critical thinking, analysis, and communication abilities. By applying the OPVL framework, I developed stronger research and evaluation skills, which are crucial in constructing well-supported arguments, interpreting information accurately, and communicating effectively in various contexts. The questions answered in this worksheet were : Origin : Is there anything special we need to know about the origin of the source? How credible is the source? Is the source biased towards a point of view? Purpose : What makes it important to your research? Value : What specific information does the source contain that will help your case? Limitation : What weaknesses are there within the source?

  This research topic proposal taught me essential skills such as research methodology, critical thinking, problem-solving, planning, communication, adaptability, and time management. It provides a valuable opportunity to engage in independent inquiry and develop a structured approach to your research project.  Now that we had filled the proposal worksheet, we had to write a proposal now. It was to be 2-3 pages long and the APA format had to be followed 

In this Controversy Analysis Paper, there are a few important things which are supposed to be included which are:  Introduction Claims; factual, value, policy, definition Language/tone Conclusion References/Sources I thoroughly analyzed my selected topic by closely examining different arguments and perspectives related to it. My analysis also incorporated our own assertions, encompassing factual information as well as subjective evaluation.  

 We were supposed to present our chosen topics for our Controversy Analysis Speech, discussing why we decided them and giving the arguments around them. This work required us to describe the reasoning for our topic selections and to offer a full study of the many opinions and justifications linked with the debates.

 For our study, we had to design a survey in which data was to be collected from individuals via a survey that we had to create and distribute to a set of target audiences for our themes.   This was our final presentation of the course WRCM 102. Lastly, this Persuasive Research Paper was the final assignment of this course and it was the most important one. In this paper, the word limit was 2000-2500 words in which we had to pull together all that we had learnt this semester. This course came to an end but it taught us the art of constructing compelling arguments, presenting evidence, and effectively persuading readers to adopt our viewpoint. It helped develop critical thinking skills by analyzing and evaluating various sources to support our thesis. Through this process, we learn to articulate our ideas clearly and concisely, enhancing our communication abilities. Additionally, it encourages us to explore different perspectives and strengthen our own position through reasoned discourse.
